Acts 24:13 Meaning and Explanation

This is the legal center of the speech. Roman justice ran on proof, and the prosecution has produced none — no witnesses from Asia, no evidence of tumult, only assertion stacked on assertion. Paul simply points at the empty space where the evidence should be.

'Prove' is a word the truth never fears. The faith Paul preached rests on things that happened in daylight — Christ crucified and risen, 'seen of above five hundred brethren at once' (1 Corinthians 15:6) — and the life that faith produces can bear inspection. False charges evaporate under examination, so Paul stands calm. 'Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again' (Romans 8:34).
