What Does Acts 27:23 Mean?
Paul names the ground of his assurance. That very night an angel of the God to whom he belongs and whom he serves stood beside him. Even amid the howling storm, with no light in the sky, heaven was not silent; God sent His messenger to His servant.
Notice how Paul describes himself — God's possession ('whose I am') and God's servant ('whom I serve'). His confidence flows not from his own strength but from belonging wholly to the Lord. The God who claims us also keeps us. In the darkest night, the believer is never beyond the reach of heaven, for the Lord 'shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways' (Psalm 91:11).
