After a full day of Paul's careful teaching, the response splits in two. Some are persuaded and believe; others remain unconvinced.
The same word, faithfully spoken, meets two different hearts and bears two different fruits. This has always been the way of the gospel: it gathers some and is refused by others, not because the message changes, but because the soil differs. Paul's task was to proclaim faithfully; the response lay with each listener. We are not promised that all will believe, only that we must speak the truth in love and leave the harvest to God.
