What Does Acts 5:20 Mean?
Freedom is given not for escape but for testimony. The angel names the most public place in Jerusalem, the temple, and the fullest message, 'all the words,' with nothing trimmed for safety. By daybreak they are to be standing where anyone can hear and everyone can see.
The gospel is here called 'this life': not a set of opinions about life but the life itself, found in the risen Jesus. As Peter once said to him, 'thou hast the words of eternal life' (John 6:68). Deliverance in Scripture always carries a commission; God brings his people out of bondage so they can stand and speak.
