What Does Acts 5:25 Mean?
The messenger's report completes the irony: the council sits in full session over an empty prison while the prisoners stand in the temple courts, doing exactly what they were arrested for doing.
They are 'standing' there openly, just as the angel commanded (verse 20). Obedience done in daylight is its own witness. The apostles neither hide their freedom nor flaunt it; they simply use it for the purpose for which it was given, for liberty from God is always liberty for his service.
