When Moses was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brothers, the children of Israel.

What Does Acts 7:23 Mean?

Raised in the palace, Moses turned his heart toward the slave quarters. Stephen marks it as something rising within: kinship and concern that privilege had not erased.

The word for visit is the one Scripture loves to use of God looking on his people to help them (Luke 1:68). Compassion begins with choosing to go and see. Every true deliverance starts the way this one did, with a heart that will not look away.

In the Original Language

episkeptomai (ἐπισκέπτομαι), 'visit' -- to look upon with care, as God visits his people.
