What Does Amos 5:22 Mean?
God continues to reject their worship, naming the specific offerings: burnt offerings, grain offerings, and the peace offerings of their finest fattened animals. However lavish and correct in form, He will not accept or regard them. The expense and care lavished on them count for nothing.
The most costly religious gifts cannot buy God's favor when the heart and life are unrighteous. He cannot be bribed with sacrifices any more than the corrupt judges could be bribed, for He desires obedience and justice, not mere ritual.
