What Does Colossians 3:11 Mean?
Paul draws out a stunning consequence of the renewed self. In this new humanity there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free -- the old dividing walls of ethnicity, religion, culture, and social rank lose their power to separate.
These were among the deepest divisions of the ancient world, yet in Christ they no longer define a person's worth or belonging. The reason gathers everything up: but Christ is all, and in all. He is what truly matters and the One present in every believer alike. The church becomes a community where former barriers give way to shared life in him. For the Colossians, drawn from varied backgrounds, this is a charter of unity. What unites them is greater than anything that once divided them, because the same Christ fills and claims them all.
