What Does Daniel 11:16 Mean?
The northern conqueror now stands unopposed, doing entirely as he wills, for no one can withstand him. He plants himself in 'the glorious land', the land of Israel, which is consumed under his power. The holy land, so often the prize between these empires, again becomes the ground trampled by foreign ambition.
That the land of promise should lie at the mercy of a proud conqueror is a grief running through the prophets. Yet the very title 'the glorious land' remembers its true worth in God's eyes even as it is harmed. No occupier holds it forever; the One who gave it has not forgotten it.
