What Does Daniel 11:6 Mean?
After years of conflict the two kingdoms try to make peace through marriage: the southern king's daughter is given to the northern king to seal an agreement. But the alliance collapses. She cannot retain her position, her husband's power does not hold, and she, her escort, her father, and her supporters are all swept away. Human treaties prove as fragile as the ambitions behind them.
The verse is a sober parable of trust misplaced. Peace bought by political marriage, with no deeper bond, does not last. Scripture again and again turns the eye from such brittle arrangements to a covenant that cannot fail.
