What Does Daniel 2:7 Mean?
Cornered, the Chaldeans can only repeat their first request: let the king tell the dream, and they will supply the meaning. They have no other move. Their second asking betrays that they are stalling, hoping the king will relent.
Their helplessness is the point. The men paid to know the unknown are exposed as knowing nothing the king does not already tell them. When pressed to the edge, human pretension has only repetition to offer. The silence where their wisdom should be is the very space God is about to fill.
