What Does Daniel 6:8 Mean?
The men press Darius to make the decree official by signing it, so that it becomes irrevocable under the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be altered. Once sealed, even the king himself will be bound by it. They want the trap locked before its true purpose can be seen.
The very permanence meant to glorify the king will soon become his prison. Human law, however firm, cannot be unsaid once spoken here, and that rigidity will trap the lawmaker as surely as the accused.
