Solomon reflects on the limits of human power. Whatever has come to be 'is named already,' appointed and known before we arrive on the scene; 'it is known that it is man,' a name itself tied to the dust from which we were formed. We do not invent our place; we receive it.
And so he reminds us that man 'may not contend with him that is mightier than he.' Our wisest course is not to argue against the way things have been ordered but to trust the One who orders them.
