Ephesians 4:26 Meaning and Explanation

Paul makes a careful distinction: 'Be ye angry, and sin not.' Anger itself is not always sin; there is a place for righteous indignation against wrong. But anger easily slides into sin, and so it must be watched and kept from leading us astray.

'Let not the sun go down upon your wrath.' Anger must not be nursed and carried into the night to harden into bitterness. Paul counsels dealing with it quickly, before it festers. Resentment allowed to linger poisons the heart; the new self refuses to let it take root.
