What Does Ephesians 5:17 Mean?
Paul presses the point: 'be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.' Wisdom is not vague; it has a content, namely the will of God. To live wisely is to seek and grasp what the Lord desires.
This understanding is something to be pursued and grown into. God's will is not hidden from those who seek it with a willing heart. Paul calls his readers away from a thoughtless drifting and toward a deliberate effort to know and do what pleases the Lord in their daily lives.
