What Does Esther 2:4 Mean?
The terms are blunt: whichever maiden pleases the king will be queen instead of Vashti. The crown is offered as a prize for pleasing one man. Once again the narrator notes that the thing pleased the king and he did so, his familiar habit of adopting whatever counsel is set before him.
