Esther 7:1 Meaning and Explanation

The king and Haman come to the second banquet with Esther. The hour Esther has carefully delayed has finally arrived. All three are at the table: the king who can save, the enemy who would destroy, and the queen who will now at last speak. The trap is fully set.

The brevity of the verse belies its tension. Haman, fresh from leading Mordecai through the streets and hearing his household foretell his doom, sits down unaware that this very meal is his judgment.
