What Does Esther 8:1 Mean?
On the very day of Haman's death, his estate passes to Esther, and Mordecai is brought before the king, for Esther has now revealed that he is her kinsman. The two hidden things, her people and her guardian, are openly acknowledged. What was concealed for safety is now safe to disclose.
The wealth amassed by the enemy of the Jews is given to the very people he sought to destroy. Mordecai, who sat unrewarded at the gate, now stands before the throne. The narrator shows the fortunes of the faithful rising as the enemy's fall is complete. Yet the deadly decree still stands over the land, and the day's triumphs cannot rest until that shadow too is lifted.
