What Does Ezra 6:4 Mean?
Cyrus had directed that the walls be built of three courses of large stone topped with a layer of new timber, a sturdy and honorable construction. Remarkably, he charged the expense to his own house, so that a pagan empire funded the worship of the God of Israel.
God can move the wealth of kingdoms to serve His purposes. The people who had returned poor and few did not have to bear the cost alone. The same Lord who calls His people to build also provides the means, often through hands they would never have expected to help them.
