What Does Ezra 7:25 Mean?
The king now grants Ezra authority to order the community's life. Drawing on the wisdom of God that is in his hand, Ezra is to appoint magistrates and judges over all the people west of the Euphrates, and he is charged to teach God's laws to any who do not yet know them.
Two callings stand together: to establish just judgment and to teach the ignorant. Both flow from the wisdom of God. A people is rightly ordered when its leaders judge by God's standard and when its members are taught His ways. Knowledge of God's law is not meant to stay with a learned few but to be shared until all may know it. Faithful leadership both upholds justice and patiently instructs, so that the whole community may walk in the light of God's truth.
