What Does Galatians 6:15 Mean?
Paul restates the heart of the matter one last time. In Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision — the old distinction that the whole controversy turned on simply does not count. Neither having the mark nor lacking it decides anything before God.
What matters is a new creature. The decisive thing is the new creation — a person remade from within by the power of God, given new life in Christ. This is what circumcision could never accomplish and what the gospel freely brings. Paul lifts the readers' eyes past the quarrel over flesh to the one thing that truly counts: not an outward rite, but a wholly new life created in Christ Jesus.
