Genesis 1:11 Meaning and Explanation

On the third day God turns the bare ground green. Grass, plants, fruit trees, He calls them all up out of the earth at once. There is a beautiful detail here: each one carries seed within itself, after its own kind. God does not make a garden that must be remade every morning. He builds renewal right into it, so the apple holds the seed of the next tree and the field replants itself. The gift is made to keep on giving.

A world stocked with seed is a world made for the future. The same God who hid life inside a seed later used that very picture to speak of Himself, a grain of wheat that must fall into the ground and die before it can bear much fruit. What looks like an ending in His hands becomes a harvest, and the abundance of that third day points ahead to a life that multiplies past death.
