Genesis 14 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

When his nephew Lot gets captured, Abram bravely goes to the rescue — and afterward meets a mysterious king who blesses him.

Today's Story

Some kings went to war, and in the fighting they captured the city where Lot lived — and they took Lot and his family away as prisoners!

When Abram heard, he didn't wait. He gathered the men of his household — 318 of them — and chased after the armies all through the night. With God's help, Abram rescued Lot, his family, and everyone else, and brought back everything that had been taken.

On his way home, Abram met a special person: Melchizedek, a king who was also a priest of God Most High. Melchizedek brought out bread and blessed Abram: “May God Most High bless you — the God who made heaven and earth! And praise God, who helped you win!”

Abram was so thankful to God that he gave Melchizedek a tenth of everything. And when the king of the rescued city offered Abram a big reward, Abram said, “No thank you. I don't want anyone to say they made me rich. God is the one who takes care of me.”

Abram was brave enough to rescue his family, and humble enough to give God all the credit.
