Genesis 18 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Three mysterious visitors come to Abraham's tent with news so surprising that Sarah laughs out loud.

Today's Story

One hot afternoon, Abraham was sitting by his tent when he looked up and saw three visitors standing nearby. Right away, Abraham hurried to welcome them. He bowed low, brought water to wash their feet, and rushed to make them a big, delicious meal. Abraham was kind to strangers.

As the visitors ate, one of them said something amazing: “About this time next year, Sarah will have a baby boy.”

Now, Sarah was listening from inside the tent. And when she heard it, she laughed to herself! “Me? Have a baby? I'm far too old!”

Then the visitor said, “Why did Sarah laugh? Is anything too hard for the Lord?” Sarah was surprised — how did He know she laughed inside the tent? These were no ordinary visitors. God Himself had come with the promise.

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?” It's the biggest question in the whole story. And the answer is always: No. Nothing is too hard for God.

And sure enough, about a year later, just like God said, baby Isaac was born — and Sarah laughed again, this time with pure joy.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Abraham welcomed three strangers with food and kindness. How could your family welcome a guest, or someone new?
  2. Sarah laughed because the promise seemed impossible. What's something so good it would be hard to believe?
  3. “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” What's something hard you could trust God with this week?
