The Lord declares that in a little while He will shake the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the dry land.

What Does Haggai 2:6 Mean?

God lifts the people's eyes from their small project to a vast horizon. ‘Yet once, it is a little while’—and He will shake all of creation, the whole ordered world of sky and land and sea. The language recalls the trembling of Sinai and points forward to a great future act of God that will reorder all things around His purposes.

The promise sets the modest temple within an immense divine plan. The God who can shake the heavens is not limited by the smallness of the present work; He is moving all things toward His appointed end. The New Testament takes up this very verse (Hebrews 12:26–27) to speak of what cannot be shaken remaining forever. For the discouraged builder, the message is bracing: your small labor belongs to a kingdom that the shaking of all things will only establish more surely.
