What Does Hebrews 7:12 Mean?
The priesthood and the law of Moses were woven together; the regulations for worship, sacrifice, and access to God all assumed the Aaronic order. So the writer states a necessary consequence: if God establishes a new priesthood, the legal arrangement tied to the old one must also change.
This is not a casting off of God's righteousness but the unfolding of His plan. A new and better priest brings a new and better order of approach to God. What was provisional gives way to what is lasting. The change is upward, toward fuller access and surer hope, as the shadow yields to the substance who is Christ Himself.
