What Does Hosea 10:6 Mean?
The image continues: the very idol of Bethel will be carried to Assyria as a gift to its king, a captured trophy. Ephraim, the leading northern tribe, will receive shame, and the nation will be humiliated by the counsel it once trusted, its alliances and idols alike.
An idol that has to be rescued and carried away is no god at all. The plans people devise apart from the Lord come back as their own disgrace. Hosea presses Israel to feel the shame now, while there is still time to turn, for only the God who cannot be captured or carried off is worthy of trust, and only His counsel will stand.
