Hezekiah accepts God's judgment with peace, grateful that judgment will not come in his own lifetime.

Context

Hezekiah's response is remarkable. He does not protest, bargain, or ask for the prophecy to be amended. Instead, he declares the word good. He finds in it a paradoxical mercy: though his descendants will be carried away, he will know peace and truth in his own days. He will not live to see the exile. The judgment is just, and Hezekiah bows to it.

Application

The deepest test of faith is to accept God's word even when that word brings judgment. We cannot always demand that judgment be postponed or prevented. Our calling is to receive the truth, to recognize God's justice in it, and to trust that God's mercy extends even within judgment. Hezekiah learned that to have God's word, spoken truly, is better than to avoid judgment through ignorance or delusion.
