Context
Isaiah continues to expand the vision of God's purpose, moving from the deliverance of Israel to the knowledge of God among all nations.
What Does Isaiah 45:6 Mean?
The declaration of God's uniqueness now expands to a universal scope. From the rising of the sun in the east to the west, all people are meant to know that there is no god beside the Lord. This is not a boast but a purpose: the revelation of His oneness is meant to reach the whole earth. The scope of God's intention is staggering. He is not content to be known by Israel alone, though Israel is chosen as the means of revelation. The salvation of Cyrus, the release of the captives, the restoration of Jerusalem, all these serve a purpose that extends beyond that moment to the end of the earth.
We who live in a smaller sphere than Cyrus may overlook the cosmic reach of God's purposes. Yet the same principle applies. Our knowledge of God, our obedience, our witness, all become part of His work to make Himself known to all creation. We are not meant to hoard the truth; we are stewards of it. When God acts in our lives, He does so not only for our comfort but as a sign to others that He is real, that He is Lord, and that His mercy extends to all who turn to Him.
Application
Your faith is not private property. When God works in your life, He does so with an eye toward others. Pray that those who encounter you or hear your story might come to know Him. Do not contain what God has revealed; let it radiate outward.
