Context
The vision moves to the people themselves. The children represent both the literal next generation and the spiritual progeny of the covenant people.
What Does Isaiah 54:13 Mean?
To be taught of the LORD is the deepest blessing. In the ancient world, a child's education shaped their entire identity and future. But the teaching here is not merely technical or moral; it is the knowledge of God himself, direct instruction from the Source of all wisdom. John 6:45 quotes this verse: 'It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God.' This teaching culminates in Christ, the Word of God, who embodies all the wisdom of the Father and makes it accessible to us.
Great peace will be their possession. This is not the brittle peace of ignorance but the deep shalom that flows from knowing God truly. When we are taught by God, we understand our place in his purposes, our value, our calling. Fear dissolves. Anxiety loses its grip. The peace is great because it is founded on the sureness of God's character and his commitment to us.
Application
God is our ultimate Teacher. We can trust that he will guide our understanding of his Word and his will, and this knowledge brings profound peace to our hearts.
