The catalogue of wealth continues: thousands of sheep and camels, hundreds of oxen and donkeys, and a great body of servants. In that world, livestock was livelihood, savings, and status all at once, and the totals mark Job as immensely prosperous.
The closing line names him the greatest of all the people of the east. Yet the book has already told us what matters most about Job, his character, before it tells us what he owns. The order is deliberate. Prosperity is set beside piety, and we are left to ask which is the root and which the fruit.
