What Does Job 12:25 Mean?
Job closes the chapter's great hymn with a vivid image. The leaders God has confounded grope in the dark without light and stagger like drunken men. Without the wisdom only God supplies, even the powerful are reduced to blind and stumbling helplessness. The contrast with God's perfect light could not be sharper.
The verse leaves us facing a clear choice between two ways of walking. To go without God is to grope in darkness, however strong or wise we imagine ourselves; to walk with Him is to have light for the path. Job, though battered and confused, clings to the God in whom is no darkness at all. The light he longs for shines fully in Christ, the light of the world, in whom none who follow need ever walk in darkness.
