What Does Job 13:1 Mean?
Job has just finished praising God's wisdom and power at the close of chapter 12, and now he turns back to his three companions. They have been instructing him as though he were ignorant of God's greatness, so he answers that his own eye and ear have taken in everything they claim to teach.
Suffering does not erase understanding. Job claims the dignity of a person who has looked long at life and listened carefully, and he refuses to let pain reduce him to a pupil who knows nothing. There is comfort here for any believer counseled by people who assume grief equals confusion: God sees the heart that has truly heard, and He does not despise the sufferer who still thinks clearly before Him.
