Job 15:26 Meaning and Explanation

Continuing the image of rebellion, Eliphaz depicts the wicked man charging headlong at God, rushing against him with stiff neck behind the thick bosses of his shield, the heavy raised studs of a warrior's buckler. It is a picture of armored, stubborn assault upon the Almighty himself.

The scene is almost absurd in its futility, a mortal storming heaven as if his shield could turn back God. The stiff neck and the heavy buckler picture obstinate self-protection, the refusal to bow. Such defiance cannot end well. The verse exposes the madness of fighting God while clinging to our own defenses, and by contrast commends the wiser way of laying down our armor and our pride before the One against whom no shield can stand.
