What Does Job 18:6 Mean?
Bildad presses the image of failing light into the home. 'Tabernacle' here means tent or dwelling, the place of family and rest. He says the light inside it will turn to darkness, and the household lamp the symbol of an ongoing, living home will be put out, and put out 'with him.' The man and his house perish together.
An evening lamp in an ancient tent meant life, welcome, and continuity. To have it extinguished is to lose all of that. Bildad treats this collapse as the deserved end of every wicked life. Yet the same Scriptures promise that God keeps a lamp burning for the faithful, and that no darkness can finally quench the home built upon Him.
