What Does Job 18:8 Mean?
Bildad now piles up a series of hunting images, the first of six terms for traps that fill the next verses. The wicked man is 'cast into a net by his own feet' he walks into it himself and every path he treads is laid over a 'snare.' His own movement carries him to capture.
The point is that sin sets the ambush, and the sinner supplies the steps. No outside enemy is needed; the road he chooses is already mined. It is a fearful thing to walk through life with no eye to where one is going. The mercy of the gospel is that Christ came to seek and to save the lost, to break the snare and free the captive, setting the trapped feet of sinners on solid and level ground.
