What Does Job 19:26 Mean?
Job's confession reaches further still. Though his skin and body be consumed, destroyed by the corruption of the grave, yet, he says, in his flesh he shall see God. He looks past death itself to a day when he, bodily and personally, will stand in God's presence. This is hope that death cannot extinguish.
Here is one of the earliest and clearest cries of resurrection faith in all Scripture. Job expects not a vague survival but to see God in his flesh, the whole person raised and restored. Christians read this in the light of Christ, the firstfruits of resurrection, who has conquered the grave and promised that those who trust him will rise. The body destroyed by death is not lost to the God who will raise it.
