What Does Job 2:7 Mean?
Leaving the throne room, the accuser strikes Job with 'sore boils' from head to foot. The phrase 'from the sole of his foot unto his crown' means the affliction was total, sparing no part of him. The man heaven called blameless is now covered in pain, with no visible reason and no relief.
Scripture does not soften the picture: the righteous can be brought very low in body. Yet the reader knows what Job does not -- that this is not abandonment and not the last word. The wholly afflicted servant foreshadows another Man of sorrows, marked from head to foot, through whom undeserved suffering becomes the very road to redemption.
