What Does Job 22:4 Mean?
Eliphaz turns sarcastic. Job has longed to bring his case before God and reason with Him. Eliphaz scoffs at the notion that God would take Job to court because He is somehow afraid of him or impressed by his piety.
Beneath the mockery lies a real question Job will keep pressing: can a person stand before God and be heard? The answer the whole of Scripture gives is more wonderful than Eliphaz imagines. God does not fear us, yet He invites us to come boldly to Him. Through the Mediator who would later be given, the trembling sinner is welcomed, not as a threat to God, but as a beloved child drawing near.
