What Does Job 30:12 Mean?
Job uses the language of warfare. On his right hand, the place a defender or accuser would stand, a young mob rises up. They trip his feet and cast up siege-ramps, "the ways of their destruction," as an army builds roads to storm a city. He is pictured as a besieged stronghold, assailed on every side.
The military imagery conveys how organized and relentless the assault feels, as though all the forces of his undoing have allied against one broken man. Job's experience of being surrounded and overwhelmed will find an echo in every servant of God who feels the world arrayed against him. The deliverance the verse cannot yet see is the Lord who stands at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those who would condemn his soul.
