Job 30:13 Meaning and Explanation

The siege continues. Job's attackers "mar my path," breaking up his way of escape, and "set forward my calamity," speeding his downfall, while "they have no helper," perhaps meaning they need no one's help to do it, so freely do they harm him. He is hemmed in, his every road of relief destroyed.

To have one's path torn up is to be left with no way forward, no exit from the encircling trouble. Job feels the cruelty of attackers who require no allies, so easy has his destruction become. Yet the believer reads on knowing that when every human path is marred, God can make a way where there is none. The One who is himself the Way meets his people precisely where their roads run out.
