With vivid images God asks whether the rain has a father, or who begot the drops of dew. No human can claim to be the parent of the rain; these gifts come from a source beyond any earthly lineage. The unspoken answer points to God alone.

To speak of rain and dew in the language of birth is to wonder at their mystery and their gift-like nature. They are not manufactured but given, descending freely from above. So every refreshment of our lives, like dew we did not make, comes down from the Father of all good gifts. We receive what we cannot produce, and gratitude is the only fitting response.
