What Does Job 40:22 Mean?
The restful scene deepens. The leafy trees spread their shadow over behemoth, and the willows along the brook encircle it. It is an image of shelter and belonging, the great creature at home in the place God has given it, surrounded and covered.
The God who hems the beast about with shade and willows is a God who shelters what He loves. To be compassed about, covered and encircled, is the language of protection. So the Lord covers His people, surrounding them with care they did not arrange for themselves. Even amid life's heat and storm, there is a shadow prepared, and the same hand that shelters behemoth by the brook can shelter us.
