Job 40:5 Meaning and Explanation

Job completes his brief confession. He admits he has spoken once, even twice, but now he will go no further. The repeated counting is a way of saying he has said enough, perhaps more than enough, and will not pile word upon word.

This restraint is itself a kind of repentance. Earlier Job poured out long and anguished speeches; now he chooses to hold back, to let God's questions stand unanswered because he sees they were never meant to be answered but to be received. There is great strength in knowing when to stop talking before God. The mature heart learns that not every question must be settled, and that resting in God's wisdom is better than insisting on our own.
