What Does Job 41:21 Mean?
The creature's breath is so fierce it kindles coals to flame, and fire streams from its mouth. The poetry reaches its height of intensity, an image of power that consumes and cannot be opposed.
To stand before such breath would be to be undone, and that is the point pressed home to Job. Yet Scripture also tells of a breath that gives life, the breath the Almighty breathed into man and the Spirit He breathes upon His people. The same God whose creature exhales fire is the God whose breath is the very life of our souls.
