The creature so disturbs the waters that the deep boils like a cauldron and the sea froths like a stirred pot of ointment. Its movement convulses the very ocean, turning the abyss to foam.
The deep, which to the ancient ear meant the realm of chaos and dread, is here merely stirred by a creature, and that creature is but a thing the LORD has made. The God who set bounds to the sea and walks upon its waves rules every depth that frightens us. The believer need not fear the boiling deep, for its Maker holds it, and the same Lord later stilled the storm with a word.
