Job 42:17 Meaning and Explanation

The book closes with a quiet, dignified line. Job dies "old and full of days," the same honored phrase used of Abraham and Isaac. There is no shadow over his end, no unfinished sorrow; he departs satisfied, having lived to see God's faithfulness through both loss and restoration.

To be "full of days" is to come to the end with a heart at rest, not grasping for more but content in what God has given. Job's life began in prosperity, passed through unspeakable grief, and ended in peace and trust. His story leaves the reader with hope: that the God who meets us in the whirlwind also walks with us to the end, and brings his servants home full and unafraid.
