What Does Job 6:20 Mean?
The travelers reach the place where water should be and find only dry stones. Their confidence collapses into confusion and shame; they trusted, and were let down at the very point of need.
Job sees himself in them. He hoped in his friends and arrived to find them empty. Disappointed trust is a real and bitter grief. Yet Scripture sets against it a hope that does not put us to shame, the hope grounded in God's steadfast love, which never sends the seeker away ashamed.
