What Does John 10:29 Mean?
Behind the Shepherd's hand Jesus now reveals another: the Father's. The flock came to the Son as the Father's gift — a theme that runs through this Gospel (John 6:37; 17:6) — and the Giver himself stands guard over what he gave. "Greater than all": no power in heaven or earth outranks him.
The believer is held twice. Whatever would reach the sheep must somehow overcome both the Son who dies for them and the Father who is greater than all — which is to say, it cannot be done.
