What Does John 12:26 Mean?
After the grain and its cost comes the invitation. Serving Jesus means following him on the road he actually walks, which now bends toward the cross. The promise attached is presence: where I am, there shall also my servant be.
The servant's wage is the Master's company, in this life and beyond it. Then comes the astonishing final clause: the Father himself will honor the one who serves his Son. Heaven confers dignity on lowly service. Whatever following costs, to be with Christ and honored by his Father is more than the world could ever pay.
